Presentation:  Case Study – Injection Molding Plant Fire

Plastic part fabrication via injection molding is an  F-1 occupancy per the IBC and an Extra Hazard Group 1 occupancy per NFPA 13.  There are several hazards associated with injection molding, and preventing and controlling fires in these occupancies can be challenging.  This presentation will review the operation and hazards associated with plastic injection molding, discuss minimum protection and suppression requirements, and share information from a recent fire loss in an injection molding plant.  Video of the fire will be shown along with a discussion of lessons learned.

Presenter - Mary Jorgensen, CSP, CFPS, ARM

A technical specialist manager at Cincinnati Insurance, Mary is responsible for technical property loss control issues and for supervising property specialists in the Loss Control department. She is an accomplished loss control specialist with over 13 years’ experience both at Cincinnati and Zurich Insurance, and currently serves on the Certification Advisory Group which oversees the CFPS designation.
