Crucial Changes to the 2018 NCBC

This course will cover crucial changes to the 2018 NCBC including alterations made to Occupancy Classifications, Types of Construction, fire-resistance ratings and a few other miscellaneous revisions.

Presenter: Jeff Vernon, Mecklenburg County Building Code Administrator

Our presenter this month, Jeff Vernon, is employed by Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement where he currently serves as the Building Code Administrator. He is a Master Code Professional, a Certified Building Official and holds NC Level III certifications in all five trades. (Building, Electric, Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire) Jeff has been working in the construction industry for nearly 40 years. He began his career with a 6-year stint in the US Army where he served in Germany, Honduras, Alabama and at the US Army Engineer School in Ft. Belvoir, VA.  He has worked in Prince William County, VA and in Lincoln, Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties in NC. Through the years, he has been an inspector, a plan reviewer, a senior plans reviewer, and a Department Director among other job titles. Jeff has also been a part-time instructor at CPCC for the past 11 years and he serves as a Code consultant for UNCC’s fifth year Architecture students. He is married, has 7 children – the youngest of which is 20 – and he has 2 grandchildren. Jeff is also an Ordained Bishop.
